Performance and Awards

Community Memorial Hospital is one of the few small facilities nationwide to earn a VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence in Surgical Complications and Infection Prevention. The hospital was awarded the Gold Seal from the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is a recipient of the HealthGrades 2008 Joint Replacement Excellence Award™. Community Memorial, which has received five-star rating for joint replacement, total knee replacement and hip replacement, is ranked #2 among all New York State hospitals for joint replacement and among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide.

The VHA Award recognizes the hospital for meeting or exceeding national performance standards for clinical care in specific areas. Community Memorial won the award for its performance at the 90 percent or above level on clinical core measures for surgical complications and infection prevention.

The HealthGrades Award is based on results of the tenth annual HealthGrades (the country’s leading healthcare rating company) Hospital Quality in America Study in which patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation’s 5,000 hospitals over the years 2004, 2005 and 2006 were analyzed.

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations awarded Community Memorial its full accreditation in 2003 when the hospital scored 94 out of a possible 100. In 2006 the hospital was again awarded the Gold Seal by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This is a nationwide seal of approval that indicates a hospital meets high performance standards.

The Women's Center was presented with a best practices award for its breastfeeding continuation program in 2005 by New York Organization of Nurse Executives.

The 40-bed Skilled Nursing Facility, which occupies its own wing at the hospital, consistently exceeds all state and federal regulations and performs exceptionally well in studies conducted by the New York State Health Department.
