Community Memorial Hospital opens new Digital Mammography Center
2010, Hamilton. David W. Felton, President and CEO has announced the opening of the new state of the art Digital Mammography Center at Community Memorial Hospital. “This is an important service for the women in our service area,” said Felton, “and our patients will have the results of their test before they leave the hospital and the opportunity to meet with a radiologist if necessary.”
The total cost of the new equipment was $400,000. The hospital received a $50,000 grant from the Gorman Foundation of Sherrill, NY to support the purchase of the digital mammography equipment. The Gorman Foundation was founded in 2003, with a bequest from Alice M. Gorman, who passed away from breast cancer. “We are pleased to receive this support from the Gorman Foundation, said Felton. “We share a common goal of fighting breast cancer and early detection in instrument in this effort.”
Community Memorial conducts 1,200 mammograms in a typical year. Digital mammography improves the visibility of breast tissue, can detect cancer earlier, especially in pre-menopausal women less than 50, and decreases radiation exposure over standard mammography. “The patients are our number one priority,” said Bob Lattrell, Director of Radiological Services at the hospital. “All of our mammography technologists are women and, are caring and reassuring for all their patients.”
Mammography exams are conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 4pm. To make an appointment, please call 824-6180.
"Dr. Ivan Gowan deserves special commendation for putting together a group of surgeons that is among the finest in New York State, if not the country," added Felton. "Not only do the partners of Hamilton Orthopaedic Surgery provide the highest quality but they are loyal members of the Community Memorial Medical Staff and outstanding citizens of our community."
